STEM outreach

Ideal for schools, libraries, and community events, our STEM outreach programs highlight Fermilab science through hands-on activities and exciting demos. Fermilab staff will bring equipment and supplies to your event to get guests hands-on with Fermilab science. If you’ve got the event, we’ve got the STEM!

Available presentations

  • Electricity and Magnetism- Explore how electrical currents and magnets interact and affect each other with the activities provided in this kit. Using them you will learn how to create magnetic fields from electrical currents and viceversa, what role magnets play in particle accelerators, and the basics of electrical circuits.
  • Light and Color- Explore the behavior of light and how it interacts with different substances with the activities provided in this kit. Using them you will learn about reflection and refraction, how materials react to different colors of light, and about how to identify chemicals by the light they emit.
  • Quantum Physics- Explore the unique and unexpected behavior of subatomic particles with the activities provided in this kit. Learn about how pairs of particles can remain connected even over great distances, and how particles can be in multiple configurations simultaneously until it is observed.
  • Fermilab Careers- Explore the Fermilab community by learning more about the many diverse jobs at the lab. Learn about the tools and skills used by scientists, engineers, operators, and more at the lab.
