Science Accelerating Girls’ Engagement in STEM

Science Accelerating Girls’ Engagement in STEM, or SAGE, is a one-week summer camp at Fermilab for public high school students ages 14-17 hosted by national laboratory scientists and engineers to share what life in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professions is like. This program aims to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young women in the everyday life of scientists and engineers. Throughout the week, students participate in job shadowing, hands-on projects, professional development, and more!

Program activities

  • Hands-on projects inspired by genuine Fermilab science and research.
  • Tours of the laboratory led by Fermilab experts.
  • Chats with Fermilab experts from across STEM fields to learn about their career paths.
  • Connections with other students with similar interests to become a part of the SAGE journey community.

Program details

  • Camp runs 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Students must be under 18 years of age and be a current 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader in an eligible Illinois public high school.
  • For an application to be considered, students must be recommended by a teacher, coach, mentor, etc.

The Lederman Science Center’s hours have changed for the winter. Please view them on our Plan a Visit page.

The Center is closed at 12:00pm on Tuesday, December 24th and all-day Wednesday, December 25th and all-day Thursday, December 26th for the lab holiday. Our hours will resume on Friday, December 27th.

The Center is additionally closed all-day Tuesday, December 31st and all-day Wednesday, January 1st for the lab holiday. Our hours will resume on Thursday, January 2nd.
