Mission and vision
Fermilab is America’s particle physics and accelerator laboratory, dedicated to exploring the fundamental nature of the universe. Since 1967, the laboratory has pursued some of the biggest questions in science — what matter is made of, how the universe began and how it has evolved over time.
Education and Public Engagement shares the science of Fermilab with audiences through active engagement and education, while showcasing the arts and promoting stewardship of the environment. We use Fermilab’s advances in science and technology to improve our audience’s understanding and appreciation of the natural world and Fermilab’s mission. Using cutting-edge research with regard to how students learn and employing best practices in science communication, we provide opportunities for learners to engage with Fermilab’s science, technology, art, and environment, and the people who shape those areas.
We connect audiences to Fermilab’s mission because we believe that the knowledge gained at Fermilab is essential to understanding our world.
