Science Accelerating Growth and Engagement in STEM

Science Accelerating Growth and Engagement in STEM, or SAGE, is a one-week summer camp at Fermilab for public high school students ages 14-17 hosted by national laboratory scientists and engineers to share what life in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professions is like. This program aims to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young students in the everyday life of scientists and engineers. Throughout the week, students participate in tours, hands-on projects, professional development, and more!

Program activities

  • Hands-on projects inspired by genuine Fermilab science and research.
  • Tours of the laboratory led by Fermilab experts.
  • Chats with Fermilab experts from across STEM fields to learn about their career paths.
  • Connections with other students with similar interests to become a part of the SAGE journey community.

Program details

  • Camp runs 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Students must be under 18 years of age and be a current 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader in an eligible Illinois public high school.
  • For an application to be considered, students must be recommended by a teacher, coach, mentor, etc.

SAGE summer camp for 2025 has been cancelled.

The Pine Street gate on the Batavia site will be closed to the public starting Monday, June 2. The public must enter and exit through the east-side Batavia Road gate. The gate closure is expected to be in effect until June 22. Fermilab’s Batavia site is open to the public with proper identification.

The Lederman Science Center will be closed on Thursday, June 19th, in observation of the holiday. We will reopen on Friday, June 20th, for our normal hours.
